We are called to love; the first and second commands teach us to love God and others. Can anyone disagree that these should be the two greatest commands? It's the doing that's tough; particularly loving others. Even for those who have made progress dying to self and living to Christ, loving others is challenging; it's not always clear how to love certain people in certain situations. We find ourselves asking, "What does love look like in this situation?" It's the right question and needs to be asked far more often than it is. We're really asking for discernment. This is exactly what God wants us to ask and what the Apostle Paul prayed for on behalf of the church at Philippi. God wants to make us better lovers.
