Big Idea: Jesus identifies with us in our human condition to accept, forgive, and heal us.

You have probably heard it before. It is a saying commonly attributed to Marie Antoinette, the Austrian princess who became queen of France after marrying Louis the 16th. Legend says that when she was informed that her subjects, the French peasants, were starving because they had no bread, she naively answered, "Let them eat cake!"

She has come to symbolize a person who is spoiled and privileged, and out of touch with common people and everyday life-like a queen who would assume that someone who has run out of bread could eat cake instead.

It is a common failing of the rich and powerful. Someone who has been raised in a wealthy family may have trouble understanding what it is like to work hard and still not be able to make ends meet.

Politicians and presidents are sometimes lampooned because they don’t know how to use a grocery store scanner, or because they're caught without cash in a sandwich shop. And then there's the rest of us. We get an overdraft notice or a shutoff notice, and we wonder if there’s anyone who really knows how bad that feels. Someone treats us like dirt, and we sense there’s no one else who truly understands how that feels. We doubt ourselves, disappoint ourselves, and think that no one could possibly identify with us. If any of that is close to what it feels like to be you, you are not alone today. In fact, you couldn’t be less alone because of what God has to say to you through His Word today.

Today we begin a series of messages and worship experiences called "Who Do You Say That I Am?"

If you were to walk into the teaching room on Barangonan Island you would see two miniature boats suspended from the rafters. One boat is painted black and is sailing towards the Lake of Fire. The other boat, painted white, is sailing to the New Earth. We are in one or the other of these boats. We are sailing either to the Lake of Fire or to the New Earth. These boats speak not only of destination, but alignment. Those in the black boat are aligned with Satan and the demonic world. Those in the white with Jesus.

To the secular, naturalistic mind, Satan and demons are the stuff of fantasy. The Bible clearly reveals that Satan is a created angel who rebelled against God, deceived a third of the angelic host to worship him and is the avowed enemy of God, of righteous angels and humanity.  Regarding Satan the secular man scoffs and dismisses as religious fanatics those who believe in his existence.

But a day is coming when all such scoffing will cease.  In the fifth and sixth Trumpet Judgment the stuff of nightmares will be reality. Let’s review where we’ve been and where we are in our study of end-time events.

Christlikeness/holiness will cost you! It will cost you the expense of laziness because now there is no more coasting through life! You will now need to be aware everyday of where your heart is going and what you are allowing in. It will cost you precious idols and false comforters as you begin to give those up and put Jesus back on the throne. It may cost you relationships as you get looked at as odd because you won’t watch the same movies, listen to the same music, or engage in the same forms of entertainment as others. It may cost you sleepless nights, not because you’re up worrying, but because you are up praying for the salvation of the lost, for strength for believers, for strongholds to be broken, and a host of other things! It may cause you the degree of loneliness that Jesus experienced because few people want to give what it takes to truly be like Jesus!

The Chronology of Eschatology chart gives an overview of the present age and major endtime events. We are living in The Dispensation of Grace; specifically The Church Age. At any time Jesus could come to fetch His bride, the Church and take her to heaven through the Rapture event (Jn. 14:1-3; 1 Thess. 4:13-5:11). When Antichrist signs a 7 year covenant with Israel, the 7 year Tribulation will commence (Dan. 9:27). The Tribulation will end when Jesus comes again to the earth to deliver Israel and defeat Antichrist (Rev. 19:11-21). Jesus' triumph will usher in the 1000 year Messianic Kingdom (Rev. 20:1-6). With its conclusion the Great White Throne Judgment will take place during the Aftermath resulting in the consignment of Satan, demons and unrighteous humanity to the Lake of Fire (Rev. 20:11-15). Then The Eternal Order will commence resulting in the new heaven, new earth and new Jerusalem (Rev. 21).

In John Eldredge’s book "The Utter Relief of Holiness" he describes how when a surfer catches a wave there is a little effort on his part to get into the barrel through paddling but once in that barrel you simply go with it. You don’t create the wave; that is entirely beyond you. Once you are in the wave your part is to cooperate.

Holiness and Christlikeness work in the same way! We cannot muster any holiness on our own, we can simply cooperate with the work Christ is doing in us. Read Philippians 2:12-13

Did you catch that? God is the one who enables you to desire and live out holiness... Our job is to simply cooperate with what He wants to do in us! So how do I cooperate with what God is wanting to do in me?

We are in the third division of the book of Revelation - those (things) that are to take place after this (1:19). Chapters 6-18 reveal the events of the seven year Tribulation. The Tribulation will begin with the signing of the seven year covenant between Antichrist and Israel (Dan. 9:27). Chapter six reveals the first of three series of judgments that take place during the Tribulation. Some scholars believe the Seven Seal Judgments will take place in the first quarter of the seven year Tribulation, that is, during the first 21 months of the Tribulation (see Chart on page 5). The first four seal judgments follow one another in a cause and effect relationship: the Antichrist sets out to conquer the world, war breaks out resulting in famine and mass death from starvation, disease and wild animals (6:1-8). The fifth seal judgment reveals that all during the first half of the Tribulation persecution and martyrdom will break out against followers of Jesus (6:9-11). With the sixth seal judgment, God will shake heaven and earth producing catastrophic destruction (6:12-17). The seventh seal judgment reveals a half hour of silence in heaven and preparation of the next series of judgments called the Trumpet Judgments (8:1-2). Notice in your Bible that the seventh seal judgment (8:1-2) is separated from the sixth seal judgment (6:12-17) by chapter 7. Chapter 7 is a parentheses, an interlude in the flow of action for the purpose of explaining something mentioned in chapter six. Let's begin by reviewing the sixth Seal Judgment paying particular attention to the closing statement of verse 17.

Jesus has a way of compelling people to change at the soul level that no amount of behavior modification could ever do. There are numerous examples in Scripture from the prostitute in Luke 7 who went through a radical change in lifestyle to the woman at the well in John 4 who also went through a radical lifestyle change. Now I want to look at another radical change in lifestyle in a guy by the name of Zacchaeus in Luke 19:1-10.

With the signing of the covenant, the Seven Seal Judgments will commence.

Sin has plagued mankind since it first entered the world as recorded in Genesis 3. It has caused a relational breakdown between man and God and between man and man. In Genesis 3 God made clear that man would die when they sinned. The word "die" has to mean something more than just a physical death since the day Adam and Eve sinned they didn't physically die. Given the context it means "separation" between man and God and man and man, which includes both physical and spiritual death, or separation. Look at the words Moses records here. Read Genesis 3:16-24

We are in the third division of the book of Revelation, what Jesus referred to as those (things) that are to take place after this (1:19). These events follow the Rapture of the Church. Chapters 6-19 reveal the events of the seven year Tribulation.

Having taken the seven sealed scroll from the Father's hand, Jesus our kinsman redeemer will break the seals thus commencing the first of three series of judgments that will take place during the Tribulation. The first series of judgments are aptly called the Seal Judgments. These judgments begin as a result of the signing of the Seven Year Covenant between the Antichrist and the nation of Israel (Dan. 9:27).

The breaking of the first seal brings forth a man wearing a crown, riding a white horse and going forth conquering, and to conquer. Please read with me Revelation 6:1-2.
