Sin has plagued mankind since it first entered the world as recorded in Genesis 3. It has caused a relational breakdown between man and God and between man and man. In Genesis 3 God made clear that man would die when they sinned. The word "die" has to mean something more than just a physical death since the day Adam and Eve sinned they didn't physically die. Given the context it means "separation" between man and God and man and man, which includes both physical and spiritual death, or separation. Look at the words Moses records here. Read Genesis 3:16-24
